A Type of Handbook is a type-only publication celebrating the Handbooks of Flora of Papua New Guinea. To draw attention to the individual details of the flora species, lowercase and uppercase letterforms for each flower species was created, based on the starting letter of the flower’s scientific name. Highlighting their intricacies, the most distinct characteristics have been chosen to be part of the letterforms, with annotations explaining the main attributes to the audience. A Type of Handbook successfully brings attention to the unique flora from Papua New Guinea and clearly indicates to the audience the purpose and important of each species.
The accompanying double page spread for each species is created to reflect the use of each plant. For the flora only used for decorative reasons, patterns have been created using the letterforms to represent its ornamental nature. Each of these has also been paired with bright pink type to give a slight description. For the flowers that are traditionally used in the country for medicinal purposes, the usage has been focused on through creating imagery of pills using the letterforms, guided by the prescriptions.
